Drivers
Abroad are stumped by hefty Car Rental Excess costs, but could
save £££’s on the holiday budget with an annual policy
28 April 2008
- Avoid
getting stung by an unexpected big Excess
- Beware
of car rental firms costly Excess waivers
- Save
£££ by taking out an annual Excess insurance policy
Holiday
season kicks off this May bank holiday as thousands of Brits
look forward to a weekend in the sun, but standalone Excess
insurance specialist Insurance4carhire.com
warns of costly excess waivers that could leave you spending
more than you bargained for.
The
basic cost of hiring a car can appear very reasonable, and
most of us will sign up for the car rental company's insurance
policy without looking into the small print - however add-ons
- especially for ‘damage' incurred to a vehicle during the
rental period - can run into hundreds of pounds.
"It
is essential that people hiring a car are aware of the car
rental firms insurance policies and that they most likely
will not cover you for the excess - this is the damage incurred
on the vehicle's tyres, roof or undercarriage, the most commonareas
of damage,' says Insurance4carhire.com spokesman Larry
Ursich.
Excess
charges for these damages can vary from £300 - £1,500 depending
on the amount of damage and the country you are traveling
in- a big blow to the holiday budget.
"Car
rental companies do sell their own Excess cover at the counter,
but it is expensive and can cost as much as £15 per day and
does not always cover you for the total amount of damage to
the windows, tyres, roof and undercarriage. Even if you pay
to reduce the Excess to zero you may still be liable for damage
to certain parts of the car," says Insurance4carhire.com
spokesman Larry Ursich.
Hiring
a car on holiday can mount to a costly experience and a lot
more than what was quoted on the car rental firm's website.
One week's car rental, insurance and a daily excess waiver
can mount to as much as £xxxx
